VERMONT CANDLE WORKS

My passion in life is Accuracy with Creativity. I made my first candles in the 1970's. They were for friends and family made with components bought from local craft stores. After a thirty year hiatus I renewed my interest and began research into the latest products and techniques used in the manufacture of candles. I decided that I would resurrect my sand candles with a different twist: they would be reusable over & over. Thus I came up with the product we now call "Earth Lights". These are hand made sculptures using sandy gravel, rocks, sea glass, dead coral, wood, copper and various other natural substances that are cast in pure food grade paraffin with glass inserts. The light comes from a small tea light that burns at the bottom of glass insert and the light is transmitted out top and side elements for a very soft soothing glow (dim your electric). As I was doing the research for the best translucent wax with a high melting point for my "Earth Lights" I found a "Blended Paraffin" wax especially formulated for votive candles. This wax I learned was very highly praised throughout the industry and has become the standard across the candle making manufacturers. This wax comes in a perfect combination of waxes that gives the best melt point and scent throw. I bought my first case in 2005 and started to hand pour votive candles. I experimented with various fragrances and scent suppliers and formulated good burning candle. But as my research continued I found that there was a soy wax that was invented a little over a decade ago.

Because I had some people who requested soy candles I decided to investigate further. By fall of 2006 I started to work with soy wax and found that they were more difficult to work with. The 100% pure soy does not pour the same as the blended paraffin, does not cool the same as blended paraffin and does not burn as well as the blended paraffin. And that is not all, they have a tendency to crack and crumble and they do not look as good. In fact it was because of their looks that my wife started calling them "Soy Uglies". At this time I was not using the soy product that I am today and I was frustrated. I decided to try adding some of the Soy wax to the Blended Paraffin wax and eventually came up with formula that gives the best of both worlds: a clean burning candle with excellent scent throw and a smooth creamy finish. These are our Blended Wax candles That are available as votives and container (Jar) candles. I decided to continue the search for 100% pure soy wax that had the right blend. (not all companies use the same formulas for the wax). Then I found the product that was manufactured to the exact formula that inventor Michael Richards himself created over a decade before. This is now the 100% soy wax that is used in the manufacture of our candles at Vermont Candle Works. We manufacture all of our wax products and candles to the guidelines of the National Candle Association through the ASTM international standards organization. We use only the highest quality materials designated for candle manufacture to assure that our customers receive the highest quality that is expected to come from a "Vermont Made" product.
