About Our Wax and Sand Sculptures

"Earth Lights"

Our "Earth Light" sculptures are a refined version of the Sand Candles that I used to make in the 1970’s. The "new" version uses a glass votive insert instead of placing the wicks directly into the wax sculpture. In this way the original design can be preserved and used again and again. As in the past I use various elements in the design that will transmit light from the burning flame. The best results are achieved by burning "tea lights" with clear bases or removing them from the metal base. Votive candles are not recommended because they burn hotter than tea lights and will cause damage to the overall structure of the sculpture.

As with all container candles it is recommended that they only be burned for 4 hours at a time then allowed to cool before relighting. In some cases the surface wax around the glass insert may melt (this is normal) DO NOT TOUCH THE HOT WAX OR GLASS! - Burns could result. The melted wax will solidify again when it cools.

Because the sand and other elements used can scratch the finish on furniture it is recommended that the Wax & Sand Sculpture be placed on a doily or other coaster type of structure (wood, paper, cardboard, etc.).
